Have you been thinking about using rivets but get really confused?

Hi,

Have you been thinking about using rivets but get really confused? Well look no further.

Here is a step by step guide to help you on your way.

The most common used rivet size is 8mm x 8mm. The cap is the first measurement and the post ( long piece) is the second measurement.

8mm x 6mm is great to use on wristlets or for decoration on a make.

8x10 is used primarily for thick leather or multiple layers of vinyl.

Installing rivets.. you will need either the tool sets and a 1 or 2 mm hole punch

or a Kam Press and the Rivet die sets

We will explain these more in the Kam Press Blog.

Once you have your preferred tool, you will need to put a hole through your make with your selected hole punch, then your ready to insert your rivet!

How to make sure your rivet is the correct size...

The post of the rivet only just shows out the hole by about 1mm.  If it is much too more than this then it is too long.

You then place the cap onto the post that is only just poking through and you will feel it slightly click into place.

Now with the tool you have selected push the two parts of the rivet together.

Did you get a squashed cap or not a nice smooth finish? If this happened the rivet post is too long. Keep this in mind for installing the next rivet.
